The Oakwood Literary Guild/ACW 27 was established to assist students:
ACWACW is a special family of Christian writers with headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. Founder and director of this privileged group is Reg Holder who in 1989 held the first writers’ Conference in Phoenix, AZ. Since then each year has seen an increase in the number of chapters formed, and conferences held throughout the nation. At the 10th anniversary celebration in 1999, it was noted that ACW had held 130 conferences with 7000 attendees. At present there are more than seventy chapters scattered throughout many different states. Oakwood University Literary Guild, ACW, chapter 27 is the first and only ACW chapter in the state of Alabama.
HistoryThe Literary Guild formerly known as the Literary Links was born in Dr. Cecily Daly’s Developmental Reading Class in Fall 1986. After a few years it outgrew its embryonic name, the Reading Club. Shortly after, it expanded into a Reading/Writing club and later to Literary Links. With an increase of literary activities, greater community outreach activities, local service learning tasks and provision of publication opportunities the club mushroomed. The improved quality of literary service opened a door for a conversion, this time to the Oakwood University Literary Guild.
On November 1, 2000, the Literary Guild was officially affiliated with a national organization known as American Christian Writers and (ACW) hereafter became known as Oakwood University Literary Guild/American Christian Writers, Chapter 27. This was a highlight of the 2000-2001 school year. This ceremony named Oakwood University Literary Guild as another chapter of the organization known as American Christian Writers. On this occasion we requested that everyone celebrate with us, the first and only ACW chapter in the state of Alabama. This is a club of committed sponsors, active members and varied literary activities.
