About the Director

The Alumni Relations Department is back on campus along with the addition of a new director in the person of Barbara Stovall. Barbara brings with her many years of expertise in alumni relations along with a winning personality and a charming smile. For the past eight years she has worked closely with former alumni directors, Elder Sherman Cox and Victoria Miller, and has been instrumental in coordinating and facilitating Alumni Weekend events. She also worked extensively with the Alumni Association and Oakwood’s UNCF Pre-Alumni Council. You may have seen her smiling face or heard her cheerful voice, or met her congenial personality. Throughout her career Barbara has been the recipient of numerous Appreciation and Outstanding awards in various capacities.

An alumnus is defined as a person who has attended or graduated from a particular school, college or university. Barbara is proud to be an alumnus of Oakwood University. She holds an Associate of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, and a Master of Business Administration. She is originally from Myrtle Beach, SC, but has lived in exciting places such as Hawaii and Japan. Rewardingly, she has had the opportunity to work with numerous individuals of different cultures, backgrounds, and personalities. This experience has helped to mold and shape her to work effectively with all peoples.

Barbara is excited about her new position and looks forward to working and collaborating with each of you. Her goals are to cultivate and nurture relationships among our alumni and friends. Several scriptures are dear to her heart, but she would like to leave this one with you, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (KJV). God has blessed Oakwood University in ways beyond measure. Let us continue to work together as a family and partners with Christ, and you’ll be amazed at what God can accomplish through us.
