"Much is comprehended in the command, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled' (Luke 14:23). Let ministers teach the truth in families, drawing close to those for whom they labor, and as they thus cooperate with God, He will clothe them with spiritual power. Christ will guide them in their work, giving them words to speak that will sink deep into the hearts of the listeners.

a. Principle Focus (review)

Witnessing--the practice of sharing one's faith by word of mouth, lifestyle, and any other appropriate manner at an appropriate time. Witnessing may result in soul-winning, but doesn't necessarily have to.

b. Scriptural Foundation (study)

The Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 5, is the classic presentation on a life of Christlike witnessing. In it Christ gives matchless advice on how to live so that one's life is a light to the world

c. Behavior Outcomes (model)

  • Though my life is a constant witness, I deliberately and distinctly share my faith whenever possible and to whomever possible.
  • I'm ever trying to keep the two dimensions--saying and doing--in balance.

d. Personal Assessment (evaluate)

How satisfied am I with the development of this characteristic in my ministry? (Circle one.)

e. Action Plan (implement)

What will I do to increase my effectiveness in this area? (Write your intentions.)

"Lord, I want to be a witness not only for You, but to You. I want You and all heaven to see that my life is consistent in public and private. Help me to keep in mind that the best context for witnessing is "practicing the presence of God" at all times. I want to be a friend of Heaven and some of the best advertising to be found anywhere of the power of the gospel."
