"There is nothing more precious in the sight of God than His ministers, who go forth into the waste places of the earth to sow the seeds of truth, looking forward to the harvest. None but Christ can measure the solicitude of His servants as they seek for the lost. He imparts His Spirit to them, and by their efforts souls are led to turn from sin to righteousness."

a. Principle Focus (review)

Possibility mind-set--a fixed attitude or state of mind that such and such is possible for certain reasons. In a Christian context this attitude is not will-o'-the-wisp, but is based on belief and faith in God's promises.

b. Scriptural Foundation (study)

John 14 and Isaiah 40 speak poignantly to the incredible possibilities open before the minister-leader, the Christian worker who wants to do something great or special for the sake of ministry. The possibilities are there; we must think them up and attempt great things for God. It is not your vicinity, but your vision that is the key. Wherever, whenever, attempt great things for God!

c. Behavior Outcomes (model)

  • I will study my personal, church, or responsibility arena needs and possibilities, and begin to imagine what special things God can do with and through my willing efforts.
  • I will not be satisfied with the mundane or the ho-hum in ministry; God is waiting for me to step out into the possibility arena and so something worthy of His name. But I will be reasonable and contextual, and I will listen to godly counsel and take the faithful with me.

d. Personal Assessment (evaluate)

How satisfied am I with the development of this characteristic in my ministry? (Circle one.)

e. Action Plan (implement)

What will I do to increase my effectiveness in this area? (Write your intentions.)

"Lord, I am excited that You want to do the extraordinary with me! It is encouraging to know that You don't save the big things for a special group of people. Instead, You are willing to use anyone, even the lad with the loaves. Why, because he was willing to be used. Now help me to come up with something that will bless Your cause and will challenge me in the process. Lead me to it whether it be great or small. Let's balance together Your providence and my initiative."
