“Miss Frazier Goes to Washington”

While children watch the news, adults scamper to find a coveted ticket, and college students empty their already half-empty pockets to fund a trip to Washington, D.C., Oakwood University sophomore Nicole Frazier has already secured her place at the historic 2009 Presidential Inauguration.

Thanks to pre-planning and fundraising that began over a year ago, Frazier will witness next month’s events in Washington firsthand as an Inaugural Scholar.   She will attend the University Presidential Inaugural Conference and spend five days participating in special events and activities.  Frazier will also be a special guest on the National Mall the morning of January 20, 2009.  While the rest of us watch from our television sets, she will be among the guests for the inaugural parade as the President and Vice President proceed from the U. S. Capitol Building to the White House.  If that isn’t enough, this studious Biomedical Science major will also be attending a Black Tie Gala Inaugural Ball to further honor and celebrate the unforgettable event.

As an Inaugural Scholar, Frazier will have the opportunity to meet White House officials, congressional staff, presidential historians, political experts and commentators. Frazier will be able to explore historic sites all around the nation’s capital and listen to dynamic keynote speakers such as the former Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, and former Vice President Al Gore.

When asked what excites her most about her upcoming trip to Washington, she said “Being able to be a part of history!”
