The 63rd Alumni National Leadership Conference and the 51st National Pre-Alumni Council (UNCF) were held contiguously, beginning February 4 and ending February 8 at the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina. Twenty-one individuals represented Oakwood University, and eleven students from the Pre-Alumni Council were present.
UNCF queens from 39 member-institutions participated in the event, among them, Melissa Phillips, Oakwood’s own Miss UNCF. The guest speaker for the Corporate Luncheon was Don Lemon, a CNN anchor.
Dolores Miller from Maryland was one of the alumni honorees recognized at the conference. Cleveland Sellers received the Legacy Award, and Donna Richardson Joyner accepted the James E. Stamp Award on behalf of her husband, Tom Joyner, Sr.
Kristina Rucker (Oakwood University) National Pre-Alumni Council Business Manager and Keisha Sanders (Oakwood University) Parliamentarian each received an Outstanding Award from the National Pre-Alumni Council.
President Baker (OU) presented a powerful message at the East Market Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sabbath, February 7, and various workshops were conducted throughout the weekend. From the reports of the participants, the conference was educational, motivational, and lots of fun.
Mark your calendars for the next Alumni National Leadership Conference, which will be held February 6-7, 2010, at the New Orleans Sheraton.
