Dr. Garland J. Millet

 

Two outstanding events come to mind that occurred during Dr. Millet’s presidency: Oakwood College was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1958; and Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke on campus in March, 1962.  His beloved wife of 70 years Ursula preceded him in death on January 13, 2008. 

He is survived by his son Garland Millet of Baton Rouge, LA; his daughters Carol (George) Byars of Chattanooga, TN, and Debbe Millet of Huntsville, AL; his sister Ann Roberts of Orinda, CA – and a HOST of friends, former students, golf buddies, and co-workers.

In memory of Dr. and Mrs. Millet’s legacy of dedicated service to Oakwood and to the cause of  Christian education, the Garland J. and Ursula B. Millet Endowed Scholarship Fund has been established at Oakwood University.

Arrangements for the Memorial Service are pending.
