OU President Runs Marathon at South Pole
Since the beginning of this year, OU president, Delbert Baker, has surpassed his personal fitness challenge of running a marathon a month, and has completed marathons in 13 states. As if that baker’s dozen weren’t enough, on December 12, he will challenge himself yet again to run the Antarctic Ice Marathon and 100k in the frigid temperatures of the South Pole.
This will mark the fifth continent on which Baker has run the 26.2-mile race. Over the past 20 years, he has completed marathons in 28 states, on his way to achieving not only a life goal, but the university’s 50 States for Students Campaign fundraising goals as well. The campaign raises scholarship and endowment funds for the institution. Thanks to donations from students, alumni, supporters, businesses, and corporations, the university will have raised over $50,000 on Baker’s completion of this race—which would total more than $100,000 in funds and pledges.
