Oakwood Alumna Featured on BlackVoices.com for National Nutrition Month
Donna Green Goodman, MPH, adjunct professor at Oakwood University and an Oakwood alumna, was recently featured in a health interview on AOL's African-American online magazine, BlackVoices.com. She was chosen by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Circle of Promise campaign as a National Ambassador for the organization. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization is a national foundation which increases awareness about breast cancer and raises money to find a cure for the disease. Mrs. Goodman is a breast cancer survivor. "As a National Ambassador, I have joined this special campaign designed to focus on breast cancer in the Black community," Goodman said. Her new responsibilities as an Ambassador have included several media opportunities including her feature on BlackVoices.com. Because March is National Nutrition Month, she was asked to interview with the website for a feature article during this month.
In her BlackVoices.com interview, Goodman focused on lifestyle and how it is connected with optimal health. Her suggestions for lifestyle improvement drew several positive comments from website readers. One reader made a commitment to begin a vegan diet after reading about Donna's health improvements after adopting a meat and dairy-free diet. Goodman is also a widely-recognized cook of vegetarian and vegan cuisine. BlackVoices.com featured eight of Donna's recipes on their website. "I hope that [my article] challenges not only women but also families to recognize the choices that they have to improve their health as to redirect them to their value as the Creator sees them," Goodman said.
Goodman is a prominent health educator and health promoter and has published two books, Somethin' to Shout About and Cookin' Up Good Health Recipe Collection. She is a native of Huntsville, AL where she attended and graduated from Oakwood Academy. She later received her Bachelor of Science degree from Oakwood University and a Master of Public Health degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA. She is married to Dr. Edward Goodman, III, a physical therapist, and they have one son, Edward IV, who is a junior at Oakwood University.
