Oakwood Wins Honda Challenge for 2nd year in a row
Oakwood’s 2009 Honda Campus All Star Challenge Team Victorious!!!
Oakwood's Honda Campus All Star Challenge team competed in the 2009 national championship tournament March 26-30, 2009.
Team members, Alexander Brown, Marcus Cooper, Meaghan Hicks, Jason Primus, & Alesis Turner represented Oakwood University against a field of 63 other historically black colleges and universities. The schools were divided into eight groups, and the two teams with the best records in each of the groups advanced to the "Sweet 16." Oakwood competed against the following teams in round robin play on Friday, March 27:
Xavier University - Lincoln University/Missouri - Norfolk State University
Central State University 55 pts. – Oakwood University 550 pts. “This was a clean win over a good team…”
Wiley College Shaw University 115 pts. – Oakwood University 500 pts. “6/6 wins. 1 match before Sabbath rest. Great witness.”
Albany State University – Oakwood’s win ratio = 7/7.
The team, sponsor/coach Dr. Rennae Elliott and President Baker worshipped with members at the Patmos Chapel in Orlando. Then after Sabbath hours, in a close playoff game, Oakwood won with 255 pts. over Paine College’s 205 pts. They advanced to “exciting eight” and played against Norfolk State University and Morehouse College Sunday morning. Finals against North Carolina Central – best of three games. With only one loss out of 10 games altogether, Oakwood’s team completed the 2009 challenge as the victors – for the second time in two years!!

The 2009 Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Champions from Oakwood University return to Huntsville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30.
