Alumna Nominated for NABJ Award
Alumni Relations reports that OU Graduate Jamie McGriff has been nominated by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) for the 2009 Salute to Excellence Award for her reporting. Winners will be announced in Tampa, Florida on August 8, 2009 during the NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards Gala.
McGriff recently called on her reporting skills as she served as the Mistress of Ceremonies at the 31st Annual UNCF “Salute to Education” Gala at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville on April 9, 2009. Her television reporting can be seen regularly on Huntsville’s CBS affiliate station WHNT-TV Channel 19, where she has been on air since October 2007.
She is no stranger to the Tennessee Valley, having been brought up in the Huntsville area. A graduate of Oakwood University, McGriff 's broadcasting career began in radio. She worked as a freelance reporter for WBAP News Talk AM 820 in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. From WBAP, she worked as bureau reporter for KTFW 92.1 FM, covering Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield, and the HEB areas. Eventually, McGriff’s career path changed and she ventured into the world of television broadcasting. Her first stop as a reporter put her in Tyler, Texas with the NBC television affiliate. Later, she worked at the CBS television affiliate in Las Vegas, Nevada. McGriff returned to Huntsville in 2007, happy to be home covering the Tennessee Valley.
We offer sincere congratulations to Ms. McGriff for this nomination.
