Oakwood University Holds Agape Huntsville 2009

Huntsville, Ala. —Oakwood University administration will suspend classes for the entire day on Thursday, September 17, to celebrate Agape Huntsville 2009, a bi-annual event focused on community service. Every two years, the University transports several bus loads of volunteers, comprised of Oakwood students, faculty, and staff, who take time off from their busy classroom and office schedules to lend a helping hand at area schools and various local venues to repair, clean up, paint, rake leaves, weed, and provide other necessary services to aid in keeping Huntsville looking beautiful.

This year, Oakwood is partnering with Operation Green Team to facilitate the services of approximately 450 students, faculty, and staff volunteers who will engage in community service projects throughout the Huntsville area. The plan is for these volunteers to leave the campus promptly at 9:00 a.m. Buses will begin loading at 8:30 a.m. in the Oakwood University Church parking lot, located at 5500 Adventist Boulevard, to go to the various project sites. They will return to campus by 4:00 p.m. Each participant will receive an Agape Huntsville 2009 T-shirt to commemorate this special celebration of civic service.

The day will culminate with a rally, which will be held in the newly renovated Blake Center Cafeteria at 5:00 p.m., following the return of the Agape Huntsville 2009 participants to Oakwood's campus. An invitation to the event rally has been extended to Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle.
