Oakwood Alum to Assist Pastor Walter L. Pearson Jr. as Associate Speaker Director of Breath of Life Ministries
Silver Spring, Md. -- The Adventist Media Center Board, upon the recommendation of the Breath of Life Ministries Executive Committee, has voted to invite Pastor Carlton P. Byrd, DMin., senior pastor of the Atlanta Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church in Atlanta, Ga., to join the staff of Breath of Life Ministries as its new associate speaker director.
“We saw in Dr. Byrd a passion for evangelism that is consistent with our previous speaker directors,” said Elder Alvin M. Kibble, Breath of Life Ministries executive committee chairman and a vice president for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America. “He conveys both a teachable spirit and a clear sense of readiness which will enable him to greatly assist the ministry in reaching the postmodern generation,” he said.
Dr. Byrd, an ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, is a 1994 graduate of Oakwood University (formerly Oakwood College) in Huntsville, Ala. with dual degrees, a bachelor of arts degree in theology and a bachelor of science degree in business management. He is also a graduate of Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tenn., where he earned the master of business administration degree, and a graduate of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary in Berrien Springs, Mich., where he earned both the master of divinity degree and the doctor of ministry degree with an emphasis in African American religious studies. In 2008, he was induction into the Martin Luther King Board of Preachers at Morehouse College.
While serving as the senior pastor of the Atlanta Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church, Dr. Byrd has baptized more than 1,200 people and launched a television ministry that currently airs weekly on two Atlanta television stations. Under his leadership, the church was awarded a $5.2 million grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development to construct a senior citizens housing facility. In October 2009, the Atlanta Berean Church was named the North American Division’s 2009 Innovative Church of the Year.
Dr. Byrd is married to the former Danielle Mounter, who is also a 1996 graduate of Oakwood University. They are the proud parents of two girls, Christyn and Caileigh.
Dr. Byrd will assist Pastor Walter L. Pearson Jr., speaker director of Breath of Life Ministries, in the development of new programming and in the conducting of evangelistic campaigns and revival meetings. In addition to this position, Dr. Byrd will still continue to serve as the senior pastor of the Atlanta Berean congregation.
