Nursing Program Receives Continuing Accreditation Through 2018

The Board of Commissioners of the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) has granted the Oakwood University Department of Nursing’s baccalaureate nursing program continuing accreditation. The next evaluation visit will take place in spring of 2018.
A self-study report for continuing accreditation was prepared by Dr. Carol Easley Allen, chairperson of the Department of Nursing, with input from the faculty. This report was then submitted to NLNAC in January of 2010. Three program evaluators from NLNAC visited the campus on March 2 through 4 to conduct the site visit. The evaluators observed classroom teaching, clinical sites, departmental and institutional resources, and reviewed a number of supporting documents. They also met with university administrators, academic and student support personnel, the department chair, faculty, and students, and community members, among others.
In order to reach their decision, the NLNAC commissioners considered the self-study report and supporting documents, the university catalog, the site visitors’ report, and recommendations from the evaluation review panel that met earlier in the summer. Dr. Allen serves as an NLNAC Commissioner, but of course, could not participate in the discussion or the decision-making process.
The NLNAC Board of Commissioners identified the following strengths in the nursing program:
