Pastor Cleveland Retires, Admiral Black Preaches
On Sabbath, June 1, 2002, Elder Harold L. Cleveland, an alumnus of Oakwood College and pastor of the New Life Seventh-day Adventist Church, announced his retirement from the gospel ministry after 51 years of service. The special speaker for the day was Rear Admiral Barry C. Black, U.S. Navy chief of chaplains, who took time out of his tight schedule to recognize Elder Cleveland, an old friend and mentor in the ministry. For the past five-plus years Elder Cleveland has pastored one of the churches attended by many members of the OC family. They wished their pastor well as he and Mrs. Cleveland enter their "golden years."
