Oakwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery Opened

On Monday, April 29, 2002, the Oakwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery was officially opened. The date corresponded with the spring meeting of the OC Board of Trustees. Visiting guests included Huntsville city councilman Richard Showers, who represented the mayor and city officials. Dale Strong, District Four commissioner, also attended.

OC special guests included Elder E. C. Ward and Mrs. Inez Booth. Dr. Baker spoke concerning the process of making the cemetery a reality and thanked those who had taken a special interest in the project, including Dr. Christopher Leggett and Attorney Denise Cleveland-Leggett.

The gates to the cemetery were then symbolically opened and those attending walked into the beautifully landscaped cemetery grounds.
