OC Grad Places at Vocal Competition
On Friday evening, June 8, 2001, soprano Angela Brown, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, and a graduate of Oakwood College, shared first-place honors at the prestigious Altamura/Enrico Caruso International Voice Competition. Angela also won the Audience Award at the grand finals. The winners were to share $32,000 in prizes and scholarships.
While at Oakwood College Angela studied with Ginger Beazley. She later attended Indiana University, where she studied with Virginia Zeani. Angela made her Kennedy Center debut in 1992 in the role of Seena in Leonard Bernstein's 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
She has appeared in operatic roles with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City; the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Italy; and the Brevard Music Festival, in North Carolina. She has also recorded a CD with Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, on the Telarc label.
