OC Welcomes Freshmen, Returning Students
On behalf of President Baker and the entire OC family, welcome to all of our freshmen and returning students. We hope you had a great summer and we are happy you are here. Registration is over, thankfully, and the 2001-2002 school year has begun. Although the registration process is frustrating at times, many new innovations have been added to make the event less difficult. Special thanks are due to Mrs. Shirley Scott and her staff for their good work.
One of the most moving experiences of Registration Week is the Parting Ceremony, during which
freshmen walk through a gate symbolizing the move from home and their parents to the college experience.
For many freshmen this will be the first time away from home and, to a large extent, being "on their own." However, Dr. Baker assured the parents that their sons and daughters would be in good hands during their years at OC.
The program included talks from college officials and testimonials from selected parents. The Pathfinder Drum Corps performed along with other musical guests. After the freshmen marched
through the gate, they assembled in Moran Hall for a pep rally followed by a motivational session that included success tips from Dr. Baker and VPs Anthony Medley, Bruce Peifer, and Dr. John Anderson. Other events included a parent-child reception Saturday night. We are happy you chose OC as your school of choice and wish you a successful and productive year.
